Bass Trombone
Started in January 2001
Family: Wife, Nancy. Sons, Daniel(plays paintball gun) and Matthew(plays trumpet)
Education: 1983 graduate of MCC AAS in Audio Visual Technology, Played in MCC Jazz Ensemble 3 years (Chuck Morey wouldn't let me go)
Vocation: Branch Manager for M&T Bank
Musical Background: Played since 4th grade (was better then), 18 yr hiatus, and then the GJB Trombone section thought I was good enough to play. (Contract does not allow them to let me go, just lower notes, next job Tuba)
Hobbies: Watching my kids spend my money (3 years till college!!!)
How did you hear about the Greece Jazz Band?: Betsy Thurnerr at Greece Arcadia Middle School gave me Chuck Huffine's number, (I was the best 42yr old trombone player in sixth grade!)
Why did you join the Greece Jazz Band?: I needed to play Jazz and be challenged. Yes, I am challenged and the music is also a challenge. Great repetoire from standards to difficult Jazz charts.
What keeps you coming back every week?: I keep coming back because my wife keeps telling me that I have rehearsal on Monday Nights. Seriously, its the band, great group! The best part of being a part of GJB is that we all love what we are doing, good or not so good, we live for this!
Interesting facts: Since being a part of this group I have learned to play in monsoons, heat waves, gazeboes, school gyms, school auditoriums and malls. Acoustics, what a concept! There are many great memories for me with this band, none of which can be repeated here.
Song that best describes me?: I got Rythum, yeah right!
Favorite music: definately Jazz
Favorite Musicians: Brian Setzer, Jim Pugh, Prince, The Who ...etc?
Musically I wish I could play like: Jim Pugh, it's a stretch but everyone needs a dream!!!
